OpenAI Acquires AI Interface Startup for Apple Systems
OpenAI has acquired Software Applications Incorporated, a startup specializing in natural language interfaces for Apple computers. The deal brings Sky—an AI tool that assists with writing, coding, and app interactions—under OpenAI's umbrella, along with its 12-person team. Financial terms remain undisclosed.
The acquisition aligns with OpenAI's strategy of embedding AI into everyday tools, as noted by Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT. CEO Sam Altman had previously invested in Software Applications' $6.5 million seed round. This follows OpenAI's recent purchases of Statsig ($1.1B) and AI hardware firm io ($6B), signaling aggressive expansion in AI infrastructure.
